It was founded in 1989 by Felix and Pilar and is now run by the second generation of Callejo’s. They aim to represent their home, the village of Sotillo de la Ribera, through a range of organically produced wine. Sotillo de la Ribera is in the province of Burgos in northern Spain. It is a magnificent place to grow grapes, towering 930 metres above sea level and boasting a range of suitably arid soils. Bodegas Felix Callejo uses the environment to cultivate a variety of vines, including Merlot, Albillo Mayor, Garnacha, and the basis for this fine red blend, Tinto Fino – more commonly known as Tempranillo. Bursting with ripe fruit scents of redcurrant and blackberry, along with toasted oak and cocoa, the Parajes de Callejo is a Spanish medley. It is composed of 87% Tempranillo, with a healthy portion of Grenache and a splash of white Albillo Mayor. It shows a flavourful palate, with an excellent structure and notes of black fruit, supported by hints of spice, mineral and menthol. It will be an excellent partner for a charcuterie board, smokey red lentil dishes, or cured cheeses.
